Bethune-Cookman Wildcats

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats have a crazy looking clipart cat for their logo, nothing very interesting. But while watching the Wildcats brutally dismantle North Carolina A&T 70-7 tonight on ESPNU (actually, bonus coverage on ESPN2) I became entranced by their head coach, Alvin Wyatt. I tried to get a couple screencaps but they didn't turn out, so here are some historical shots of the man, the myth, the legend...

If there is a better dressed coach in all of college football, I'd like to see him. And that mustache! Hypnotic! He wasn't dressed quite as good tonight, he looked more like a cross between Richard Pryor and Kim Jong Il, but he still looked better than any of the other sweatsuit wearing suckers out there.

Most coaches would look foolish wearing what he wears, but Alvin Wyatt pulls it off and has earned the right to be that colorful. Wyatt has been with Bethune-Cookman since 1975 serving as a defensive assistant and defensive coordinator before being promoted to head coach in 1996. As head coach, Wyatt has turned Bethune-Cookman into one of the top tier Division 1-AA teams. He also resurrected the women's basketball team in 1978 and was their head coach until 1996 leaving the job to become the head coach of the football team.

Alvin Wyatt: one hell of a dresser, one hell of a mustache and one hell of a coach.

Props to Yay Sports! and Every Day Should Be Saturday for realizing the man's genius about a year ago.
